WHEN:
The story of Rise began in 2019 with a simple question: what could happen if we gathered the best and the brightest in East Asia in celebration of social mobility?
My vision of social change recognises the value of persistence and individual excellence. The motto ‘Stay Up On The Rise’ invites a wholesale rejection of medocrity and passivity, serving as a call to personal responsibility and self-creation. Quoting the visionary Margaret Thatcher, we must evolve from a dependent to a self-reliant society, from a give-it-to-me, to a do-it-yourself nation’.
Put simply: There cannot be true social mobility unless and until individual excellence is not only celebrated, but rewarded.
Philosophically, Stay Up On The Rise aligns with both humanist and existentialist principles. I propose that meaning and value is not imposed from outside, but are forged through hardship, personal endeavor, and authentic choice. Indeed, rather than relying on external support as the basis of who you are, Rise emphasises that the essence of your being is something you must own and develop yourself; to look inwards - to nurture your resilience, to embrace the values of hard work, to make deliberate choices and to define your own path independent of external coddling.
Fast forward to today and from our humble beginnings, we have gone from strength to strength, working with brilliant venue partners such as The Shard London to deliver our vision of positive social impact and celebrating individual excellence.
Now in its sixth year, Rise brings together the best and most brilliant of minds in a celebration of excellence. On behalf of all my staff and event delivery partners, I am thrilled to have you join us.
Please remember the key rule: no photos, no videos, no recording, and no social media posts!
